Back pain is a very common problem–one that will strike four out of five Americans at some time in their lives. In fact, it’s one of the top reasons people seek medical care. Unfortunately, back pain isn’t always easy to diagnose or relieve. Low back pain in particular can become a chronic or ongoing problem.

How back pain happens?
There are many possible causes for back pain, including strained muscles or ligaments, often caused by improper lifting, sudden movements or traumatic injury. Other culprits can include arthritis, structural abnormalities of the spine, or the disks between the vertebrae bulging or rupturing and pressing on a nerve. Depending on the specific diagnosis, back pain is generally treated with medications, physical therapy, chiropractic care, and in some cases, surgery.
“Acupuncture represents a highly promising and effective treatment option for chronic back pain. Patients experienced not only reduced pain intensity, but also reported improvements in the disability that often results from back pain, and therefore in their quality of life.” – H. Endres, MD

The Gonstead Chiropractic Approach
Gonstead Chiropractic can be highly effective in helping people with back pain by addressing the underlying structural and mechanical causes rather than simply treating symptoms. Back pain often results from spinal misalignments, disc stress, poor posture, or repetitive strain that places abnormal pressure on the joints and surrounding nerves. The Gonstead system uses a thorough, hands-on analysis—including posture evaluation, precise motion palpation, instrumentation, and imaging when necessary—to accurately identify the specific areas of dysfunction in the spine. Based on this detailed assessment, our Gonstead chiropractor combines precise, targeted adjustments with supportive therapies such as deep tissue and soft tissue massage to release muscle tension, reduce inflammation, and improve circulation around affected areas. Stretching techniques are also incorporated to restore flexibility, improve range of motion, and help stabilize the spine. In addition, patients are provided with practical tips and strategies—such as posture guidance, ergonomic recommendations, and at-home exercises—to help prevent future episodes of back pain. This comprehensive, personalized approach helps promote long-term relief, improved movement, and lasting spinal health.
