Candace Luo: Acupuncturist


EMC is excited to have acupuncture clinician, Candace Luo, L.Ac, MSTCM, MHA, CMI. Candace is available to see clients on Tuesdays (Friday and Saturdays coming soon).

Not only is Candace incredibly gentle and has the best bedside-side manner, but she is very good at what she does! Candace specializes in working with internal disease, such as acute respiratory infections, asthma, bronchitis, digestive-intestinal disorders, fatigue, diabetes, osteoarthritis, and woman’s health issues including fertility, menopause, and other obstetrical and gynecological ailments.

Candace has a diverse professional background, ranging from program administration to medical interpretation and translation in Cantonese and Mandarin Chinese, especially with an early accomplishment as a national, award-winning, young professional Guzheng (Chinese harp) performer before coming to the States in 1999. In 2009, Candace was licensed to practice traditional Chinese medicine in California.

Candace earned her Bachelor of Arts from UC Davis, majoring in English with a minor in Managerial Economics. She graduated with a Master of Science in Traditional Chinese Medicine from University of East-West Medicine. With an interest in administration and management, Candace continued earning her Master in Health Administration from University of Southern California. Candace is currently a doctoral fellow at Five Branches University pursuing the advanced clinical degree of Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (DAOM).

During the course of studies, Candace completed externship training program at Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, with a clinical focus on Gynecology and Herbal Medicine. Since 2011, Candace had the privilege of studying Auricular Medicine with Dr. Lichun Huang, both as a student and the simultaneous interpreter for her seminars, both in the U.S. and in Taiwan. Most recently, Candace advanced her manual therapy techniques through a series of training with Dr. Jianmin Li (China), founder of Chinese Super-Hand.

Candace has been with Alameda Health System since 2012 as a staff medical interpreter, and joined the Division of Integrative Medicine in 2014. With her unique skill set and experience, Candace strives to provide clients with compassionate, respectful, and culturally competent care.

Candace continues to cultivate her music performance by taking classes from Guzheng masters in New York and in China. It is her passion to integrate traditional music and medicine to promote holistic well-being in additional to practicing integrated medicine.
